Onimusha: Way of the Sword's Combat Is SO GOOD It Hides Some Surprising Problems

Perhaps Onimusha Way of the Sword got a little too carried away at finally reviving Onimusha that the game wanted to stuff as much as possible into the experience. The result isn't a terrible game by any means, and if nothing else, the fact that the gameplay beyond the combat is satisfying should show that it's worth the price of admission. It just would've been nice to zero in on that more, especially when the other aspects feel noticeably weaker by comparison. A lesson for the future perhaps, because I find it hard to believe that the the developer would go to such lengths to effectively soft reboot the franchise. For now, Onimusha: Way of the Sword will satisfy you if it's swordplay, incredible production values, and stellar boss fights that you're after. Just try not to let the fluff dull those moments.
