Have you been drinking Old Monk thinking it is rum? A regulatory dispute over the iconic Indian brand has raised questions about what is actually inside some of its variants. Old Monk maker Mohan Rocky Springwater has agreed to modify its labels after the FSSAI said certain variants use neutral spirit and rum flavouring and ‘cannot be sold as rum’. The company submitted revised labels to the Bombay High Court, which raised concerns over potentially misleading information on the brand’s packaging. The dispute stems from FSSAI laboratory tests that reportedly detected external artificial or nature-identical flavouring substances. Firstpost explains the Old Monk-FSSAI dispute, what the laboratory tests found and why the labels are under scrutiny. The next hearing is scheduled for September 11. --- Old Monk Rum Controversy | Old Monk FSSAI | Old Monk Not Rum | FSSAI Old Monk Case | Old Monk Label Dispute | Bombay High Court Old Monk | Old Monk Rum Explained | Mohan Rocky Springwater | F
