The backup crew for ISS Expedition 76 carried out water survival training at Russia’s Noginsk Rescue Centre on Friday, practising emergency procedures following a simulated descent-capsule leak. Footage showed Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Alexander Grebenkin and NASA astronaut Marcos Berrios exiting a capsule floating in water and using a signal flare during the drill. Anatoly Zabruskov, deputy head of the cosmonaut training department at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre, said the crew had 90 seconds to evacuate once the hatch was opened because the capsule would submerge quickly. Kononenko said the scenario involved the crew being located by rescuers before leaving the capsule for pickup by helicopter or boat. The exercise also tested how the crew would divide emergency equipment, including a radio, raft, water and food. #iss #iss76 #internationalspacestation #cosmonauts #astronauts #olegkononenko #alexandergrebenkin #marcosberrios #nasa #roscosmos #spacesurvival #wat
