The Alternative for Germany (AfD) wins the election in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt, securing 43.8% of the vote in preliminary official results. The result puts the far-right party more than 26 percentage points ahead of the incumbent centre-right Christian Democrats (CDU), who take 17.2%. AfD party leaders Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla hold a news conference following the result, joined by local candidates including Ulrich Siegmund.
