Business leaders are calling on Chancellor John Healey to replace the state pension triple lock, arguing that billions of pounds could instead be used to help younger people into work and reduce costs for employers. The British Chambers of Commerce wants future pension increases linked to inflation and estimates the change could save around £3.3 billion over two years. The debate comes ahead of Healey’s first Budget, with questions also mounting over whether further tax rises can be avoided. Julia Hartley-Brewer speaks with economist and former Institute for Fiscal Studies director Paul Johnson. Have you got a story?
