In an exclusive conversation with Firstpost, William Rodriguez, a 9/11 survivor and former World Trade Center janitor, recalled being in the North Tower basement when the attacks began. He said he helped lead firefighters and rescue people before being buried alive under the rubble. Twenty-five years later, he said the memories remained with him every day. Rodriguez also spoke about his campaign to help undocumented 9/11 victims and their families access federal compensation. He said America's post-9/11 war on terror made the world less safe and argued that compassion, activism and remembering the victims were essential to understanding the legacy of September 11.
