Israel to close British consulate in retaliation for sanctions

Israel has announced that it is closing Britain’s consulate in Jerusalem after Labour unveiled a package of sanctions on West Bank settlements. The sanctions, announced by Ed Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, ban imports from the Israeli settlements. In a statement to MPs, Mr Miliband accused “terrorist” settlers of “ethnic cleansing” in a significant break from the policy of the previous Labour government.
