Hundreds of thousands of passengers have been caught up in major travel disruption after a technical failure at UK air traffic control provider NATS forced the cancellation of more than 1,000 flights. Heathrow and Gatwick were among the airports badly affected, with passengers urged to check their flight status before travelling.
