Sir Gareth Southgate has said Britain's young people are "in a difficult situation" and the country "has got to do better", warning that government policies could be making it harder for businesses to take a risk on young workers. The former England manager was speaking during a visit to the Netherlands with Alan Milburn, who is leading an independent government review into youth inactivity. The trip aimed to examine how the Dutch keep many more of their young people in work, education or training. Almost one million young people in the UK are currently not in education, employment or training (Neet). There were an estimated 981,000 so-called Neets, aged 16 to 24, in April to June 2026, giving the country a Neet rate of 13.6%. The Netherlands, in comparison, has a Neet rate of just 4.8% - one of the lowest in Europe. 0:01 - Introduction 0:23 - How the Netherlands keeps youth unemployment down 1:43 - What could the UK learn? 2:52 - Dutch young people react to the UK's situation 3:4
