Britain’s decision to impose a trade ban on goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank has triggered a major diplomatic row with Israel. Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband says the measures are intended to oppose settlement expansion and protect the possibility of a future two-state solution. Israel has responded by ordering the closure of Britain’s consulate in East Jerusalem and announcing further restrictions against the UK.
