Author Jake Wallis Simons warns that the Government’s ban on imports from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories will inflame antisemitism and deepen fears within Britain’s Jewish community. He accuses Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband of pursuing “gesture politics” and appeasing activists hostile to Israel, arguing that the policy ignores the country’s importance to Britain’s trade, defence, medicine and intelligence capabilities. Jake condemns violence by a small number of Israeli settlers as “reprehensible”, but says the Government is allowing a fringe group to define its wider relationship with Israel. He also argues that the Palestinian leadership’s record on terrorism, education and rejecting peace proposals has not attracted equivalent British sanctions. Have you got a story?
