A technical failure in the National Air Traffic Services flight processing system grounded departures across Britain on Tuesday, affecting more than 15 airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham. Over 1,000 flights were cancelled or delayed. 65,000 Ryanair passengers alone were disrupted. The issue lasted nearly seven hours before being resolved. Britain's Transport Secretary apologised. Ryanair called for the NATS chief executive to resign. It is the fourth major NATS failure since 2014 and the second time its flight processing system has specifically failed — the first being the August 2023 outage that affected 800,000 passengers.
