Why do global democracy indexes give India such sharply different ratings? In this Vantage Select interview, American sociologist and University of Sydney professor Salvatore Babones takes a closer look at how these rankings are created, who evaluates them, and whether expert assessments truly reflect the realities of Indian democracy. Babones challenges widely cited rankings of India, examines the methodology behind democracy and press freedom indexes, and questions the striking differences between how India is assessed by various institutions. Watch the full conversation with Professor Babones on India’s democracy and global rankings with Hem Kaur Saroya. --- India Democracy | India Democracy Index | Democracy Index India | Indian Democracy | India Democracy Ranking | Democracy Rankings | Global Democracy Index | Democracy Index | Press Freedom Index | India Press Freedom | India Ranking | India Democracy Debate | Salvatore Babones | Salvatore Babones India | University Of Sydney |
