Hungary has again blocked progress on Ukraine’s European Union accession, as the Council of the EU’s Working Party on Enlargement failed on September 8 to approve screening results for negotiating clusters 2 and 3. European Pravda, citing EU sources, reported that diplomats were unable to persuade Budapest to change its position. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said Kyiv was seeking clarification from Hungary, arguing that Budapest had not clearly communicated its demands despite almost daily negotiations. Tykhyi rejected suggestions that Ukraine was seeking a fast-track to EU membership and accused representatives linked to Viktor Orbán’s government of continuing to obstruct the process after 17 months of blockage. The dispute is also affecting Moldova’s accession process, while earlier reports linked Hungary’s demands to legislative measures concerning Hungary’s national minority in Ukraine. #ukraine #hungary #eu #europeanunion #ukraineeu #euaccession #hungaryu
