“The courts are in crisis. There's no disagreement with that. But then you look at what's actually going to reduce the delays. And every independent reviewer agrees that reducing the delays is not needed by reducing juries.” Andy Burnham is planning to give judges the power to decide whether "either way" offences are sent to the Crown Court for a jury trial or kept in Magistrates' courts but it could cause further delays says chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales, Kirsty Brimelow KC. Kirsty Brimelow was speaking to Kate McCann and Stig Abell on Times Radio Breakfast. Listen live every Monday-Thursday, 6-10am.
