Labour’s proposed class equality plan is facing criticism over whether it will deliver meaningful change for working-class people or simply become another costly government initiative. Author and The Times columnist Matthew Syed joins Ian Collins to discuss the barriers facing talented people from state-school and working-class backgrounds. Drawing on his own journey from comprehensive school to Oxford, Mr Syed argues that social connections, confidence and access to opportunities often matter as much as talent. While supporting efforts to improve social mobility, Mr Syed says he would not trust Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson to deliver the programme, warning that it could become ideological, waste money and achieve little. #workingclass #equality #education Have you got a story?
