French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday called for greater European strategic and technological sovereignty in space, warning that “space is no longer a sanctuary” and urging the European Union to strengthen its domestic launch, satellite and communications industries. Speaking at the first World Space Summit in France, Macron said France would invest an additional €40 million through the CNES in space observation and reiterated a commitment to invest €20 billion in the sector through 2030.
