As Reporter Lewis Denison explains, England’s mayors will be given the power to introduce a tourist tax under plans to be set out by the government. The levy will be decided by local leaders and charged as a percentage of the cost of accommodation to overnight visitors, rather than a flat fee, which the government argues will protect budget holidays. It is understood the levy would have no upper limit, though government sources said mayors were unlikely to make it too costly. #politics • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on X: https://twitter.com/itvnews
