As America grieved its losses from 9/11, its government sought those involved in the attacks. Their focus became Afghanistan. Its Taliban rulers accused of housing the Al Qaeda masterminds. Within weeks the US, along with British and coalition forces, had launched a war determined to drive the Taliban from power. They did and occupied Afghanistan for 20 years. Exhausted by another seemingly forever war, American troops pulled out in 2021. In their wake the Taliban returned. More a disappearance than destruction. As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 is marked, the Taliban are marking five years back in power. The former fighters are now in the offices of state. • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV N
