New powers which will allow England's mayors to impose a tourist tax have been attacked for risking jobs and growth. Under government proposals, a new levy can be imposed on visitors' overnight stays. There is no set limit but it's thought it will be no more than 5% of accommodation costs rather than a flat fee. Similar levies are already in place in many cities across the world including Edinburgh. It's aimed at seeing more money invested in local areas, but there are concerns it could actually damage the parts of England the government wants to help. -------------------- • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on X: https://twitter.com/itvnews
