Russian President Vladimir Putin met South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi, with the two leaders discussing bilateral ties, trade, international cooperation and efforts to promote peace. Putin highlighted growing political and inter-parliamentary contacts, cooperation in education and Russia’s support for South African initiatives at the United Nations, while saying bilateral trade remained at a good level despite not growing rapidly. Ramaphosa thanked Russia for supporting South Africa’s G20 presidency and said there was scope to expand trade and cooperation between the two countries.
