Former head of the National Counter Terrorism Security Office Chris Phillips issues a stark warning about the continuing threat posed by al-Qaeda and other Islamist extremist groups. Chris argues that successive governments have allowed the security threat to “fester”, warning that potential attacks can become increasingly probable when extremist networks are left unchecked. He says a co-ordinated attack similar to the 2015 atrocities in Paris could “easily” happen again and stresses the importance of intelligence shared by Israel, the United States and the Five Eyes alliance.
