Adam Smith Institute research associate Viggo Terling warns that the rising cost of Personal Independence Payment will force the Government to make difficult decisions about Britain’s welfare system. Viggo says the real-terms cost of PIP is expected to double over the course of the decade and could reach £40 billion by 2030. He argues that making the benefit administratively easier to claim would itself constitute a significant spending decision at a time when the Treasury’s fiscal headroom is shrinking.
