Donald Trump says a trade agreement with Canada could arrive “fairly soon,” marking a notable change in tone after weeks of tariffs, threats and demands that Ottawa surrender first. The shift follows Canada’s dollar-for-dollar retaliation against approximately $20 billion in American goods. Prime Minister Mark Carney has refused to withdraw Ottawa’s countermeasures while keeping the door open to an agreement benefiting both economies. Trump insists Canada wants a deal “very badly” and continues accusing Ottawa of treating American farmers unfairly. But his pressure campaign is also becoming politically expensive, with a Reuters/Ipsos survey finding that only 20% of Americans approved of his tariffs on Canadian products. No agreement has been confirmed, and the central disputes remain unresolved. But after repeatedly predicting that Canada would come crawling back, it is Trump who is now promising that a deal is close. #Trump #MarkCarney #Canada #TradeWar #Tariffs #USCanada #CanadianTa
