U.S. President Donald Trump is predicting his administration could reach a trade deal with Canada fairly soon, despite the ongoing trade war and recent tariffs. CTV's Jeremie Charron reports that Trump made the comments while speaking with reporters alongside Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin during a visit to Ireland. Flavio Volpe, a member of the Prime Minister's Advisory Council on Canada-U.S. Economic Relations, called the president's previous criticisms of Canada's supply-managed industries a complete misrepresentation of the facts. Ottawa says it is still assessing the impacts of a new U.S. import ban on certain Canadian products set to take effect at the end of the month.
