Police in Portsmouth have used new powers targeting people who conceal their identities during protests as rival demonstrations over illegal migration returned to the city. A 76-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of concealing his identity, while footage from the protest also showed a burqa-clad demonstrator telling officers he was gender-fluid and considering converting to Islam. Former senior Met officer Kevin Hurley argues police should have recognised the stunt for what it was and simply walked away rather than allowing officers to be drawn into a confrontation. Peter Cardwell speaks with former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Superintendent Kevin Hurley. Have you got a story?
