In her talk, Harini Iyer describes her journey from feeling out of place in her surroundings to channelling those exact differences into her personal strengths and creative work. Through heartfelt storytelling and her mesmerizing Carnatic interpretations of popular Jazz standards, she conveys that music can bridge the gap between different roots, languages and communities. The displacement she felt in her roots helped shape who she is today, which led to her forming a community of musicians combining Indian classical music and Jazz and eventually creating the Tamil Jazz Collective. With her love for the stage and music, she encourages the audience to ask themselves who they want to become when the surroundings don't fit, and if they’re willing to push the boundaries and explore uncharted realms. Renowned for her captivating fusion of classical Indian music with contemporary genres such as Soul, Pop and Jazz. Iyer is the founder and the creative director of the Tamil Jazz Collective. I
