For nineteen days, Dr Manju Appathurai could not begin a piece of work that mattered. She looked calm to everyone around her and was frozen inside. The night before it was due, she sat down and finished the whole thing in a single sitting, better than if she'd taken the nineteen days, then accepted the compliments on how effortless she'd made it look. Two women had been in her body that morning, and for most of her adult life she believed one of them had to be the lie. A licensed psychologist, Dr Manju explains why that was the wrong question and what it costs to keep asking it. Through the vagus nerve, Bruce McEwen's research on allostatic load, and a 2023 Stanford study on breathing, she shows what your body is charged for policing the parts of you that don't fit. Ts. Dr. Manju Appathurai is a licensed Leadership Psychologist and Technologist, and the founder of Mahat Advisory, the strategic partner for ASEAN's leadership. Holding dual postgraduate qualifications in Crisis Economy
