Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate has sworn at a journalist and stormed out of press conference amid questions over a US visit earlier this year. An ABC investigation has revealed inconsistencies over whether the mayor actually dined with President Donald Trump at his Florida retreat in February. Councillor Tate lost his cool with ABC Brisbane's reporter Liam Walsh while being questioned about who footed the bill for the widely reported meeting. The White House told the ABC that the US president and first lady Melania Trump "did not have dinner with that group", including the mayor. Mr Tate said the matter was private and he was not going to elaborate. An ABC right-to-information request for documents turned up next to no documents about a moment the mayor described as the Gold Coast getting a "guernsey to meet the leader of the free world". #TomTate #ABCNewsQld Note: In most cases, our captions are auto-generated. #ABCNEWS #ABCNEWSAustralia
