Deep within the suffocating, uncharted jungles of Belize, archaeologists have just breached a sealed subterranean chamber that hasn't seen the light of day in roughly 1,700 years. While excavating the ancient Maya megacity of Caracol, a research team dug through the floor of a burial chamber and descended into the dark. What they found waiting for them at the bottom is rewriting the history of Mesoamerica's most terrifying apex rulers. Inside the stifling, pitch-black tomb lay the skeletal remains of a man completely coated in blood-red cinnabar powder—a highly toxic mineral the ancient Maya used to symbolize the rising sun and honor immortal power. Researchers soon realized they were standing face-to-face with Te K’ab Chaak, the legendary founding king of the Caracol dynasty, whose name ominously translates to the "Tree Branch Rain God". He seized power in 331 AD and ruled an ancient metropolis larger than many modern cities. Animation is created by Bright Side. ----------------
