Through encounters with glaciers, extreme environments, and a pastoral family he returned to photograph over the years, this talk explores the distance a camera can create between observer and experience. Li Heng is a photographer and filmmaker based in Xizang, China. His work documents the plateau’s natural landscapes, extreme sports, and ongoing changes, from melting glaciers to kayaking, paragliding, and mountaineering. He also follows the people and stories of the region. In 2023, he was a member of the Bosideng Everest mountaineering team and worked as photographer and director for a paragliding challenge over Everest. In 2019, he was nominated for Best Outdoor Photographer at the 13th China Outdoor Golden Rhino Awards. In
