Satellite images show major changes in the size and colour of Lake Urmia in Iran over the past 14 years. Lake Urmia is a saltwater lake known for its reddish colour. Satellite footage shows how its water levels have changed between July 2012 and July 2026. The footage comes from CSU/CIRA and NOAA/NESDIS satellites and shows the changes in the lake’s water levels over the 14-year period. According to NASA, the lake’s colour changes during the summer as water levels fall. This allows microalgae to grow, giving Lake Urmia its well-known red colour. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said that water from the lake has been diverted for agricultural use, which has contributed to its shrinking size. --- Lake Urmia | West Asia Conflict | Iran | Iran water crisis | Environmental crisis | NASA | USA | Environment | Firstpost #lakeurmia #iran #satelliteimages #nasa #iranwatercrisis #drought #environment #climatechange #irannews #viralnews Firstpost is an Indian news and media webs
