The United States has confirmed for the first time that it has weapons orbiting Earth, capable of defending against hostile adversary action in space. The Pentagon has not disclosed the type of weapons, their capabilities, or how long they have been deployed. Experts view this as a direct warning to Russia and China, amid concerns these nations are developing technology to destroy satellites that could impact ground warfare and civilian infrastructure including GPS and financial systems.
