The Thirlwall Inquiry into Lucy Letby has found profound failures at the hospital where babies died in her care. Dr Susan Gilby joined the Countess of Chester Hospital as chief executive following Letby’s arrest. She has won £1.4m of compensation after being unfairly dismissed for trying to raise concerns about the management team. Dr Gilby said it lacked the “curiosity” and “urgency” to understand the circumstances around the babies’ deaths. A Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said they are “truly sorry” for events which occurred in 2015 and 2016. They added they are “unable or unwilling to comment on issues that remain subject to an ongoing investigation by Cheshire Police”.
