The incident comes amid a sharp escalation in attacks involving Saudi Arabia, Yemen’s Houthi movement and Iran-aligned forces. Security alerts have been issued across Mecca, Jeddah and other parts of the kingdom, while Saudi oil infrastructure and Red Sea shipping routes face growing pressure. With the Houthis controlling strategic territory near the Bab el-Mandeb chokepoint, the conflict could have implications far beyond Yemen.
