This speech invites us to look beyond the actions we see and question the stories we automatically create about the people around us. Shaped by our assumptions, cognitive biases, and the constant flow of information, our first impressions can often hide what is really happening beneath the surface. Sometimes, caring means slowing down, questioning what we think we know, and making the effort to understand the person behind what we see. Mai Thuc Quyen is a student and speaker who explores the assumptions we make about the people and situations around us. Through her speech, she examines how cognitive biases, first impressions, and the constant flow of information can shape the stories we create about others—sometimes without us even realizing it. Through this exploration, Thuc Quyen encourages us to become more aware of the assumptions we carry and to question what we think we know. She reminds us that what we see on the surface may only be one small part of someone’s story. Mai Thuc
