NHL all-time leading goal scorer Alexander Ovechkin has been featured in a campaign video for United Russia, the political party backed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Washington Capitals. The video shows Ovechkin standing behind Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov as part of the political campaign ahead of Russia's parliamentary election scheduled for September 18–20, 2026. Ovechkin has faced scrutiny over his longstanding public relationship with Putin. In 2017, the Washington Capitals star formed a public movement supporting Putin. After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Ovechkin called for peace and said he hoped the conflict would end soon. The appearance comes as Russia prepares for its first parliamentary election since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine. #AlexanderOvechkin #Ovechkin #NHL #WashingtonCapitals #VladimirPutin #Russia #UnitedRussia #SergeyLavrov #Hockey #SportsNews Welcome to Sports TV – Your Home for
