A Dutch activist who admitted spray-painting pro-Palestine slogans across the Winston Churchill statue in Parliament Square has been found not guilty of criminal damage. The graffiti included “Free Palestine”, “Stop the Genocide”, “Zionist war criminal” and “Globalise the Intifada”. Former British Army colonel Simon Diggins says he will always defend the jury system but describes the verdict as an occasion when “the law is an ass”, questioning how someone who admitted carrying out the act could be acquitted.
