Turkey has warned Greece over the militarization of Aegean islands that Ankara says have a demilitarized status under international treaties. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the militarization as a “threat” to Turkey and accused Athens of violating its treaty obligations, while urging Greece not to add another “provocation” to the region’s security challenges. Greece and Turkey, both NATO members, have longstanding disputes involving maritime boundaries, continental-shelf claims and Cyprus. Ankara has also expressed concern over Greece’s growing defence relationship with Israel, while Athens has defended its right to strengthen its military capabilities. A separate dispute over marine parks declared by Turkey has added another point of friction between the two neighbours. #turkey, #greece, #turkeygreece, #aegean, #aegeanse a, #aegeancrisis, #nato, #natoallies, #hakanfidan, #erdogan, #mitsotakis, #greekislands, #military, #militarytensions, #geopolitics, #worldnews, #brea
