“The Illusion of The Starting Line” discusses the societal dynamics that impact us every day that we don’t even realize or see. Focusing on where we belong rather than making home for ourselves wherever we are, people tend to box themselves in, under the assumption that others always have. What if we change that? What does it look like to dictate your own starting line in this mad dash that is life and success? Desmond is a recent graduate of UCSD out of Thurgood Marshall College with a degree in Music Technology. Hailing from Los Angeles, Desmond brings a unique creative approach and energy to his work within the music industry and advocacy for arts and culture in the San Diego collegiate community. Naturally humorous and engaging, he opts to use his platform to inspire others in ways that limit pressure and emphasize self empowerment through expression. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
