Is sharing a meal ever just eating? Restaurateur Suzana Barros doesn't think so. From a Portuguese painting of two lovers lost in conversation over dinner, to her childhood table set every night by candlelight, to the first-date jitters and quiet business deals she watches unfold nightly at her Lisbon restaurant Tágide — she makes the case that every meal carries something invisible: care, memory, belonging. But she doesn't stop at comfort. Drawing on centuries of art history, from tender family scenes to a 16th-century painting of hell itself, she shows how the same table that nourishes love has also hosted excess, power, even poison. So what is food, really — care, power, love, or something more dangerous? Watch to find out why Barros believes the answer isn't fixed. It's a choice we make every time we sit down. Suzana Barros is an art expert, entrepreneur, restaurateur, and ceramist whose work bridges creativity, culture, and community. With degrees from ESAD and Sotheby's Institute
