The European Union will disburse €3.3 billion ($3.8 billion) to Ukraine for defence needs including missiles and drones, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said after speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The funding is part of €28.3 billion allocated for Ukraine’s defence this year under the EU’s Ukraine Support Loan. Von der Leyen said the bloc had also approved funding for Patriot systems and that “clearly more is needed” as Russian strikes continue to target Kyiv. She said the EU was prepared to use remaining SAFE funds for joint EU-Ukraine defence projects, including development of a European air and missile defence system based on the joint anti-ballistic Freya project. #ukraine, #russia, #eu, #europeanunion, #ukrainerussiawar, #ukrainewar, #kyiv, #russianstrikes, #missiles, #drones, #patriot, #airdefence, #missiledefence, #vonderleyen, #zelenskyy, #europe, #geopolitics, #worldnews, #breakingnews, #defence, #ukrainecrisis, #russiaukraine, #ukrain
