Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday welcomed regional leaders and representatives to the western Ukrainian region of Ivano-Frankivsk for the inaugural Carpathian Eight summit, an initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation among Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary, with the European Union also involved. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Romanian President Nicusor Dan and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic attended, while other participating countries were represented by senior officials. Zelensky said the initiative would seek closer cooperation on security, energy, logistics, cross-border economic ties and support for local communities.
