An air traffic control issue which led to more than 2,000 flights being cancelled was caused by a defect in the software that allocates codes to individual aircraft, an investigation has found. A preliminary report into the incident on September 8 was released by the National Air Traffic Services (Nats) on Friday, who said that the issue was not caused by any “incorrect actions”. The fault caused flights both in and out of the UK to be axed, impacting hundreds of thousands of passengers. • Subscribe to ITV News on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2lOHmNj • Get breaking news and more stories at http://www.itv.com/news Follow ITV News on TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@itvnews?lang=en Follow ITV News on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/itvnews/ Follow ITV News on X: https://twitter.com/itvnews
