Three weeks after the Kenya Wildlife Service launched an operation to relocate crocodiles from flooding Lake Baringo, one woman has taken on one of the most dangerous tasks — wrestling the reptiles to safety. Sergeant Beatrice Jemutai Mitei works alongside her male colleagues, tracking, capturing and moving crocodiles from the swollen lake to safer habitats. But as the waters rise, swallowing homes, schools, roads and farmlands, the operation is about more than saving crocodiles. It is also about keeping communities safe while protecting the delicate ecosystem of Lake Baringo. Gatete Njoroge reports.
