Iran has warned that if Washington prevents Tehran from exporting crude, other oil-producing states around the Persian Gulf will not be permitted to continue exporting safely. The warning from senior IRGC official Aziz Ghazanfari reflects Tehran’s “oil for oil” doctrine. Iran argues that hostile powers cannot eliminate its petroleum exports while expecting Saudi, Emirati, Kuwaiti or Iraqi crude to move uninterrupted through regional waters. Approximately one-fifth of the world’s traded petroleum normally passes through the Strait of Hormuz, alongside major Qatari LNG shipments. Even limited disruption could increase insurance costs, discourage shipping and push global fuel prices sharply higher. A complete closure would carry serious risks for Iran, including further American strikes and tensions with neighbouring countries and China.
