The Archbishop of Canterbury is facing calls to resign after an interfaith award presented to a Muslim cleric on the 25th anniversary of 9/11 was withdrawn over past comments about Osama bin Laden. Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi received the Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation before Lambeth Palace reversed the decision after his previous remarks came to light. Bishop Cei brands the episode an “absolute disaster” for Dame Sarah Mullally and the Church of England, accusing Lambeth Palace of catastrophic failures in due diligence and calling for the Archbishop to step down.
