The Trump administration has extended the $100,000 payment requirement for certain H-1B visa applications for another year, keeping the measure in place until September 21, 2027. The policy targets H-1B applicants outside the United States and has major implications for companies hiring skilled foreign workers, including in technology, engineering and research. On September 18, 2026, the White House renewed the requirement first introduced in September 2025, saying it was aimed at addressing what the administration describes as abuse of the H-1B programme and the hiring of lower-paid foreign labour. The $100,000 payment requirement has faced legal challenges. India remains the largest source of H-1B beneficiaries, accounting for 71% of approved H-1B petitions in fiscal year 2024, according to USCIS. In this video, Firstpost explains what the extended H-1B fee means for Indian professionals, U.S. employers and the future of the skilled-worker visa programme. --- H-1B Visa | H-1B Visa
