Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has launched a blistering attack on France after Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot condemned executions and the treatment of anti-government protesters in Iran. Araghchi told Paris to stop its “crocodile tears,” cited Algeria’s official estimate that 1.5 million people were killed during its war of independence from France, and accused the French government of remaining silent after American missiles struck the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab. The Algerian death toll remains disputed by French historians, but Paris has resisted demands for a comprehensive apology for its colonial rule.
