Yuchen, 33, has plenty of dating-app matches but never makes it to a second date. Convinced he simply doesn’t know how to communicate, he joins a social-confidence workshop, hoping to become better at conversation and perhaps finally find a partner. Through roleplay and exercises, Yuchen learns to read social cues, show more emotions and avoid unintentionally putting others down. As Yuchen’s confidence grows, he puts his new skills to the ultimate test at his first-ever speed-dating event. Despite his nerves and some awkward moments, all three women who attend the event choose him. For Yuchen, securing a second date is more than a romantic win. After feeling that his life has been “flat,” it is proof that he has what it takes to succeed.
